Paul Reed Smith Mira

Mira 2

Mira 1

This was my first Paul Reed Smith (PRS) guitar. PRS has been in business since the mid-eighties and a number of big name players (Carlos Santana, John Mayer, Alex Lifeson, etc.) endorse these guitars (I didn’t get an endorsement deal). I did like this Mira enough to purchase two more PRS guitars over the last ten years though. These fine instruments are made in Stevensville, Maryland in the good old U.S.A.

The Mira can cut through any mix. My favorite features are the pickups, the coil tap switch and the abalone bird outline inlays. The wide-thin neck carve is perfect for me and the fret finishing is as good as it gets.

Here is the info published by Premier Guitar Magazine when the Mira debuted in 2007:

Latin for “wonderful,” Mira is also the name of an unusually fast moving star located approximately 350 light years from earth. The PRS Mira model is a 24-fret guitar that features a 25” scale length, 10” radius, regular or wide-thin neck shape, locking tuning pegs, PRS non-adjustable stoptail, Abalone moon inlays or optional bird inlays. The guitar also features East Indian rosewood fingerboard, a solid mahogany body and neck, Mira treble and bass pickups, volume, tone, 3-way blade switch and mini toggle coil tap. The model is offered in range of colors including Vintage Cherry, Orange, Vintage Mahogany, Black, Wild Mint, Lilac, Seafoam Green, Powder Blue and Sandstorm.

Note: I did swap the stoptail bridge for a PRS wrap-around adjustable bridge. Also, if you're interested in story behind the bird inlays
